Our Beliefs
Beliefs are a statement of faith that summarises essential doctrines which unites the local church body. These biblical truths help us to teach, unify, and guard the church. It also unites us with all who affirm the truths of historic, biblical Christianity. This Statement of Faith is adapted from the Gospel Coalition Statement of faith.
God
We believe in one, true and living God, eternally existing in three equally divine Persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
Revelation
We believe that the Bible with all sixty-six books is inerrant, infallible and inspired word of God and has final authority over us as followers of Christ.
Creation of Humanity
We believe that God created human beings, male and female, in His own image. Men and women, equally made in the image of God, enjoy equal access to God by faith in Christ Jesus. Adam and Eve were made to complement each other in a one flesh union, which establishes the only normative pattern for marriage – a covenantal union for life between one man and one woman – and the only right pattern for sexual relations for human beings.
The Fall
We believe that Adam, made in the image of God, distorted that image by disobeying God and falling into sin through Satan’s temptation. As a result, all human beings are alienated from God, corrupted in every aspect of their being, personally opposed to God and therefore, condemned finally and irrevocably to death— apart from God’s own gracious intervention.
The Plan of God
We believe that from eternity past God determined in His grace to save a great multitude of guilty sinners through his Son Jesus Christ.
The Gospel
We believe that the gospel is the good news that God saves sinners through faith in Jesus Christ who died in our place and rose again.
Redemption in Christ
We believe that Jesus the eternal Son and the Word became flesh, fully God and fully man and by His incarnation, life, death, resurrection, and ascension, acted as our representative and substitute. We believe that salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name given under heaven by which we must be saved.
Justification of Sinners
We believe that we are justified and declared righteous through grace by faith in Christ’s work of salvation on the cross as our substitute.
The Christian Life Empowered by the Holy Spirit
We believe that at the point of conversion the Holy Spirit “baptizes” believers into union with Christ and that He indwells them as a pledge of their promised inheritance. All genuine believers are indwelt by the Holy Spirit at conversion and are commanded to pursue the ongoing, empowering work of the Spirit.
The Church
We believe the Church is made up of all those who have by faith received the free gift of salvation in Jesus Christ.
Baptism and The Lord's Supper
We believe that baptism and the Lord’s Supper are ordained by the Lord Jesus Christ as means of God’s sanctifying grace and blessing to the church. Baptism is the immersion of the believer – one who has repented and trusted in Christ – in water in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. The Lord’s Supper is to be observed only by those who have trusted Christ for salvation.
The World to Come
We believe all believers are exhorted to persevere in their faith to the end of their lives and the end
of this age. The end will come in personal, glorious, and bodily return of the Lord Jesus Christ.
Our Confession
We confess the five Solas of the Reformation namely, Sola Scripture (the authority of scripture), Sola Gratia (Grace as the basis of salvation), Sola Fide (faith as the means of salvation), Solus Christus (Christ as the merit of salvation), Soli Deo Gloria (living for the glory of God alone). These five Solas capture the gospel of Jesus Christ and form the nucleus of the evangelical confession of faith.

Creeds are historical and unite us to the apostles teaching. They are universal and unite us with the church around the world. They are also doctrinal and unite us in common faith. And lastly they are liturgical and unite us in worship. Here are two well known creeds we affirm.
The Apostles’ Creed
I believe in God, the Father Almighty,
the Creator of heaven and earth,
and in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord:
Who was conceived of the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius
Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried.

He descended into hell.
The third day He arose again from the dead.
He ascended into heaven
and sits at the right hand of God the Father
Almighty, whence He shall come to judge the living
and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and life everlasting.

Amen.
(The Apostles’ Creed is not written by the Apostles
themselves, but it contains a brief summary of their
teachings, as the words are almost all directly from their Epistles. It is the oldest creed dating to around 2nd century. This is one of the most commonly used creed in the Christian church.)
The Nicene Creed
I believe in one God, the Father Almighty, Maker of
heaven and earth, and of all things visible and
invisible.

And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only-begotten
Son of God, begotten of the Father before all
worlds; God of God, Light of Light, very God of
very God; begotten, not made, being of one
substance with the Father, by whom all things were
made.

Who, for us men and for our salvation, came down
from heaven, and was incarnate by the Holy Spirit
of the virgin Mary, and was made man; and was
crucified also for us under Pontius Pilate; He
suffered and was buried; and the third day He rose
again, according to the Scriptures; and ascended
into heaven, and sits on the right hand of the
Father; and He shall come again, with glory, to
judge the quick and the dead; whose kingdom
shall have no end.

And I believe in the Holy Ghost, the Lord and Giver
of Life; who proceeds from the Father and the Son;
who with the Father and the Son together is
worshipped and glorified; who spoke by the
prophets.

And I believe in one holy catholic and apostolic
Church. I acknowledge one baptism for the
remission of sins; and I look for the resurrection of
the dead, and the life of the world to come.

Amen.
(The Nicene Creed is a statement of the orthodox faith of
the early Christian church, in opposition to certain
heresies, namely Arianism which denied the doctrine of
Trinity and the divinity of the Son. This creed is used as a
statement of faith by many evangelical churches across
the world. It was formulated at the great council of Nicea
during 325AD)
Our Commitment
At New City, we desire to grow as a healthy church shaped by the biblical patterns for life and ministry. We understand this is a high calling and a life long journey. Yet by God’s grace and through the power of the Holy Spirit, we commit ourselves to pursue steady, intentional growth in the following areas, trusting that Christ is building His church.
Expository preaching
Plurality of Biblical leadership
Meaningful membership
Gospel shaped ministry
Culture of discipleship
Outward focused
Church planting
Theological training
